The Friends of Harmers Wood Trust

"... to deliver an environmentally and financially sustainable woodland for the common good of the local communities and the wider public"

Harmers Wood was put up for sale by the Cholmondeley Estate in June 2005, initially interest was shown by commercial concerns and the bids soon increased to in excess of £50,000. An informal group of local users of the wood formed themselves into a company, sought charitable status and through a media campaign managed to secure a deal with the Cholmondeley Estate to purchase the wood at the original asking price of £32,000 providing the wood remained open for the use of the public.

The only task left was to find the funds required, through grant applications and donations the money was raised and the wood was purchased in 2007. The FOHW now manage the wood as a resource for local people.
